Chasing down a payment with no success can be frustrating and stressful. So you might want to get some professional help. There are a number of places to get that help and guidance:

The Small Business Commissioner

The Office of the Small Business Commissioner (OSBC) is an independent public body set up by the Government under the Enterprise Act 2016 to tackle late payment and unfavourable payment practices in the private sector. The OSBC covers the whole of the UK and has plenty of advice and guidance, so could be a good place to start.

The UK Government

The government itself also offers some guidance on small business issues, including chasing down payments – and also provides a searchable database of law firms and other business support services. You can even chat online with an adviser.

Federation of Small Businesses

FSB offers its members a wide range of vital business services including advice, financial expertise and other support. But it also has a stack of useful information for non-members, on its website.

Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice is an independent organisation specialising in confidential information and advice to assist people with legal, debt, consumer, housing and other problems in the UK. It offers a downloadable guide to debt recovery through a county court for small businesses.
